​Provincetown Portraits 1978

Thomas Antonelli, longtime Provincetown artist and, along with his husband, Gerald Giradelli, owners of the Antonelli Giradelli Gallery, painted what he loved: the sea, the sky, the dunes, fantastical creatures, Provincetown characters and the natural beauty of both Cape Cod and Italy. Every canvas sings of the joy he found in nature, in life. 

From the warmth of the sand on the beaches to the night skies of Tuscany to the simple flowers from his garden, Antonelli’s paintings remind us of what’s important in life and invites us to stop and take a moment to appreciate what was so important to him and why he gave his life to his art so that we might share, even for a moment, the joy he found all around him. 

The simplicity of line and form, the richness of color and the honest, forthright and often quite bold expression tell us what Tom so eloquently shares with us in his work: his joyful celebration of life, love, people, and the life force of the earth and what it offers.
