Thomas Antonelli, (1952-2019) long-time Provincetown artist and, along with his husband, Gerald Giradelli, owners of the former Antonelli Giradelli Gallery, painted what he loved: the sea, the sky, the dunes, fantastical creatures, Provincetown characters and the natural beauty of both Cape Cod and Italy. Every canvas sings of the joy he found in nature, in life.
From the warmth of the sand on the beaches to the night skies of Tuscany to the simple flowers from his garden, Antonelli’s paintings remind us of what’s important in life and invites us to stop and take a moment to appreciate what was so important to him and why he gave his life to his art so that we might share, even for a moment, the joy he found all around him.
Nancy McCarthy, Boston-based artist and educator, uses bold strokes of color to render landscapes, familiar things in unlikely places, often with a nod to the abstract. McCarthy’s painterly approach underscores her subjects and the result feels out of time and timeless all at once.
McCarthy often combines still-life with landscape elements to create unique and often thought-provoking artworks with an imaginative composition that create a dia-logue between object and the landscape.
